SCAC Bonny Doon Picnic

The Santa Cruz Astronomy Club held its first BBQ/Tailgate party in a long time at Bonny Doon Airport on the 3rd of September. We had a great turnout. There was lots of great food and enough small grills to get everyone’s food cooked up. Seventeen folks had signed up to attend and I think everyone showed up.

We got lots of positive feedback, so hopefully we can do this on a more regular basis. It’s a great way to stay connected with our fellow astronomers before we get busy with our own rigs.

The weather was a bit of a surprise as well. At five o'clock it was somewhere around eighty degrees and didn't really start cooling off until midnight. Not much humidity, either. A nice warm, dry night with good seeing and decent transparency, too.

Walter did a car-count and found that we had twenty cars in attendance.

Thanks to everyone that made our BBQ a huge success.

SCAC Annual Yosemite Outing

Every year, astronomy clubs and organizations up and down California are invited to Glacier Pt at Yosemite National Park, to provide a weekend of public viewing.

In 2011, the Santa Cruz Astronomy Club is going July 22-23

Club members who commit to providing a telescope on Friday and Saturday nights can camp at our group campsite at Bridal Veil Campground, about 8 miles from the Glacier Point.
